Inspired by the Land
At MorningStar, the garden is more than a place to grow flowers. It's a place of discovery, experimentation and endless inspiration.
From gathering blooms to exploring natural dyes and botanical printing, each creative practice begins with curiosity about the land and the materials it offers.
It's an ongoing journey of learning, making and finding new ways to work with nature.
Every creation begins with curiosity …
and a deeper connection to the land
One of the most fascinating parts of working with plants is discovering how differently they behave.
A flower bursting with colour in the garden may leave only a faint impression on cloth, while a seemingly ordinary leaf can reveal an extraordinary pattern.
Through gathering, arranging, wrapping and steaming, botanical printing becomes an experiment in colour, chemistry and nature. Each piece is a discovery, shaped by the plants, the process and a little unpredictability.
It's a reminder that some of the most beautiful things happen when we allow nature to surprise us.
Land-based Learning
An exploration of textiles, from the land up.
Set on MorningStar's 70-acre regenerative farm in the Alberni Valley, Soil to Cloth Field School explores how textiles can emerge from regenerative, place-based practices.
Through immersive, hands-on learning, participants explore the full life cycle of textiles, from soil and growing practices to natural dyeing, fibre and thoughtful design.
Created for makers, designers, artists, growers and curious learners, this multi-day experience brings together practical skills, creative experimentation and a deeper understanding of our relationship with the land.
An evolving educational offering at MorningStar.
